Introduction

The department of Chemistry is on of the foundation departments in the inception of Paul University, Awka. Apart from Mathematics, Chemistry undoubtedly alls branches of sciences: biology, pharmacy, medicine, physiology, biochemistry and engineering. Without a sound knowledge of chemistry, industrial developments in pharmaceuticals, synthetic polymers, various aspects of energy exploitation, colouration industry mining and extraction of minerals, would have been difficult.

Types of Programme

At the initial stage, the Department offers 4 year degree programme in pure chemistry, leading to a bachelor's degree in chemistry (BSC).

Philosophy

The programme is designed to provide thorough understanding of chemical principles and how these principles can be transformed into practical use in the economic and social development of the country

Entry Requirements

Candidates are required to sit the joint UME matriculation examination. In addition students are required to obtain credits in Chemistry, English language, Physics, Mathematics, Biology or Agricultural Sciences in W.A.E.C, NECO or their equivalents.

Direct Entry students must have obtained passé in Chemistry Physics and mathematics in Advanced Level, or any other equivalent qualification acceptable to the University Senate.

Job Opportunities

Graduates in Chemistry have wide spectrum of job opportunities in various industries, research institutes, and educational institutions. They find employment in pharmaceutical Industries, vegetable oil industries agriculture, petroleum, dyestuff, polymer etc. Of course, they may be self employed.
